Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science

Organizers of the Degree Programme

The core task of Aalto University is to promote integrative and innovative world-class science and research, and based on that foundation to provide highest university-level education.

The Brain and Mind programme draws from world-class basic research conducted at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science (BECS) and the Brain Research Unit (BRU) of O.V. Lounasmaa Laboratory. BECS is a forerunner in computational study of complex systems and the development of advanced computation methods. BRU is a pioneer of the technical development, signal analysis, and neuroscience applications of magnetoencephalography (MEG), a time-sensitive method to study human brain function..

The professors and staff scientists at BRU and BECS have a long track record in training PhD students and postdoctoral scientists, many of whom have become leading experts in their fields. BRU and BECS have full support from Aalto University and the School of Science as they now combine their strengths by launching a carefully-tailored world-class study programme at Master's level.
